Tunda Island

What’s In Tunda Island?
Tunda island located in Java Sea, in the northern Gulf of Banten. Administratively, this island is apart of Serang, Banten. The island is about 300 acres with population reached 3,000 people in 2007. There’re two villages in the island, Kampung Barat and Kampung Timur. Mostly they work as farmers and also fisherman.

The main attraction of this island is fishing. The place is heaven for fishing sport. In some spots also give a pretty under water spots for snorkeling. Early morning, if you are lucky, you can see a large group of Dolphins. The water around the island is passed by the Dolphins route.

Estimate Time
It can be done only one and half day. A good gateway from Jakarta. The island can be reached around 5 hours  from Jakarta.

Transportation
From Jakarta can be reached by public transport. Take a bus heading to Merak port. But stop at Pakupatan bus station in Serang. From the bus station, take the small green car, called angkot, to Karangantu Port. From Karangantu you can take a boat to the island. However, public boat to the island only 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday). At 2 pm from Karangantu port and 8 am from Tunda island. Hence, it is better to shared cost with friends if you want to spend only the weekend.

For rent the boat and accommodation at Tunda Island, you could call Mr. Anshor, we use his serviced before. His mobile phone is +62.858.1180.4077. He can’t speak English. But if you need help, find alocal person to talk to him.

Important
If you bring a group, give out the list of participants prior to the day of departure to the boat owner. This port is a fishing port and not passenger’s port. The boat we rented also a fishing boat. Hence the boat owner must report to the harbormaster for transporting passengers. It is also because the area is not ready for tourist yet, so the regulation still complicated. The important thing is that foreigners should bring the copy of passport and visa, for their checking.

Foods
Very few sellers in the village. Usually they sell grocery for villagers, so bring your own food or include it in the deal of the homestay.

Place to Stay
You can ask the owner of the boat to arrange a rent house. This place didn’t have proper homestay. Or you can set a tent or a hammock on the trees. But of course you have to ask permission for the people around. But again, you have to learn a bit of Bahasa Indonesia due this spot is not tourist spot (yet).
